City of Temecula

Temecula is in the  Southwest region of Riverside County just South of where Hwy 215 meets the 15 frwy.

Historically the area was ranch lands and agriculture but in the 1990s the Hwy 15 corridor from Los Angeles to San Diego was completed and a subdivision land division was developed.  The population grew from a population of just 1783  in the 1980s to just over 27,000 by the 1990s.  The area continued to grow and there are about 115,000 residents now in Temecula.  The city incorporated in 1989.

Despite the development, Temecula still offers a rural feel and is a popular tourist area offering wine country and vineyards, Old Town Temecula, hot air balloons, and festivals. In 2001, the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians opened the Pechanga Casino and Resort.

Temecula sits among rolling hills and a change of elevation from 1175 to 2600 feet.  In the distance, mountains sit in the background and offer snow-caped views during the winter months.  Temecula is about an hour from the coast to the West or San Diego to the South. 

Temecula has an inviting climate with cool winter and warm, dry summers.  Temperatures range from the 40s and 50s in the winter and then increase to the high 80s and 90s during the summer.  Rainfall is light but the area does get some morning mists and ocean breezes that follow the  come into the valley from the Pacific Ocean. 

As in many of the Inland Empire areas, housing prices have increased considerably from 2020 to 2021. Per Redfin, the average home price in Temecula was $660K, which was an increase of 28% over the previous year.
